At Share the Magic Foundation we understand that literacy can give an individual power over their life. When someone cannot read, they are excluded from many of the things that allow us to be fully functioning citizens with choices. Illiteracy keeps people trapped in a cycle of poverty, limits their academic and professional choices and makes it difficult to achieve social mobility. When a child cannot read on grade level by 4th grade, they are likely to drop out of school, become incarcerated, be of poor health and ultimately need government assistance. We believe every child deserves a chance. Through reading children boost knowledge, expand vocabulary, develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills, improve focus and concentration and increase employment opportunities. We aim to transform the lives of children through literacy by introducing book ownership in households where reading is not a priority and to improve literacy among students with below grade-level reading skills by introducing the long-term benefits of being an active reader. Since 2016, Share the Magic Foundation has been devoted to transforming the lives of children through literacy. Through our In-School Programs, Virtual Reading Challenges and Community Partner Programs, we have ignited a love for reading in thousands of kids. Our goal is to give every child around the globe an opportunity to read, so that they may have richer, more robust lives.
