Malcolm's interest is not only in sharing his personal literacy story but also in creating "Reading Ambassadors" in middle and high school age students. Schools, organizations and individuals can be reading ambassadors.
- Purchase a copy of The Magician's Hat for young readers at a feeder elementary school, youth or community organization.
- Schedule a time to read to your group of young readers.
- Leave your copy of The Magician's Hat behind for the young readers to enjoy over and over again!
Malcolm shares with students that he became encouraged to be a better reader when he started reading to others. As a “Reading Ambassador,” Middle and High School students take their copy of “The Magician’s Hat” and read it to a younger student. Schools can organize reading service projects at local elementary schools or youth centers, or it can be done on an individual basis by simply reading to younger siblings and family friends. By older students sharing their copy of “The Magician’s Hat” with a younger student, they are able to join the movement to help change the face of youth literacy in their own community.
